SPF’s first event of 2020 at Sochi Casino has come to a close after a long break. The poker series, which has taken place at Sochi Casino since 2018, was forced to close because of the World pandemic. Since June 2020, all tournaments were either cancelled or postponed until further notice. As soon as restrictions were eased, SPF Summer 2020 was announced.
However, the organisers couldn’t look out for all the risks that may have happened after a 4 month break, and the decision was taken to cancel the guarantees for each event for the first time in SPF’s history. But there was nothing to worry about. Players missed live poker as much as we missed them. SPF Summer 2020 has become the most attended festival in SPF’s history, reaching record numbers of unique players.
So, let’s look at the numbers. Sochi Poker Cup tournament with buy-in 250 c. u. (~$239) gathered 648 entries, smashing the previous record of 504 entries during SPF Grand Final Festival last December. The next two major tournaments have broken records as well, with the Warm-Up and HighRoller tournaments reaching 300 and 152 entries respectively.
Overall attendance of SPF Summer 2020 was an unprecedented success. Just listen up, a total of 650 people took part in the festival, of which 200 were newcomers! The Main Event tournament, with buy-in 770 c. u. (~ $740) gathered 504 entries, which fell short of SPF Grand Final December 2019’s entries of 682. Michael Zamyatin took first place and became champion with the highest cash in SPF’s history – a whopping 60 960 c u. (~ $57 500)!
